Theme Parties

One of the best party tips I ever learned in college was that the best parties always have a theme. Weddings have an automatic theme, birthdays have a theme, holiday parties have a theme. But you can take your everyday party or birthday parties or especially company parties and kick it up a notch! Just by adding a theme you're adding a new dimension to the party. Everybody gets to step out of their everyday life and get to be someone new or special. Here are a couple of suggestions for cool theme parties. We can help you on every aspect of these parties, from the music to the decorations and everything in between. Each of the following pages will give you a couple song ideas (we have plenty more), decoration suggestions and other tips.

  1. Pirate Party

This is always a fun party, especially now with the success of the Disney Pirates franchise. You can do this with minimal effort or you can go all out. There are all sorts of great pirate decorations available now.

  2. 70's Disco Party
This theme keeps staying alive! Boogie shoes, bad haircuts, funky synthetic clothes but also some of the best dance music ever.

  3. Island Party

A Few Reggae Favorites. It's so much more than just Bob Marley.

Some Soca: the Happy Island Music, some great party songs you know and you probably didn't even know they called them soca.

Throw in a few Ska songs - great for dancing.

Fakin' Jamaican favorites. Songs with that reggae/ska flavor, but aren't really either, although some may call a few of these ska.

  4. Sock Hop

Poodle skirts, jeans and white t-shirts... Do you want just 50's? Or some early 60's added in? Or can we play songs throughout the years that sound like they belong at a Sock Hop?

  5. 60's Psychedelic
Some of this is kinda dance music, but mostly not. I just put this in because everyone already thinks of Motown for sixties dance music, so this is different. (And, yes, I do have a great "Motown-type" party list - just ask if you want to see it.) (As for you Beatles lovers, how about Beatlesque songs or Beatles covers in addition to the originals?)

  6. Tropical Luau
Here's something fun that you can actually apply to all these other party ideas as well. Got songs that are great for "listening", but you still want play them? Just divide your evening into "Dinner" music and "Dancing" music. Here's a sampling of an Island dinner music menu for your Hawaiian style Luau.

  7. 80's New Wave

80's New Wave Theme San Jose Green Wedding DJ
The last great theme decade. You could also do variety of other 80's themes (ie: big hair metal), but this seems to be the most popular. If you're going more "punk", then make your invitation,, rip part of it and photocopy it and then make copies from the copies to send out. Authentic punk replica.

  8. Surf/Beach Party
This is always fun to do. It's easy or you can go all out. Throw up some beach towels and umbrellas. Pull out the cooler. Spread some sand in your backyard (I've even seen a party where they put sand indoors - all downstairs - what a job to clean that up, though.)

  9. Mexican Fiesta

Fiesta Theme San Jose Green Wedding DJ
From full on Bodas Mexicanas (Mexican Weddings) to your own backyard Cinco De Mayo party, a fiesta is always fun. Great music. Great food. Fun Decorations. From the traditional to the Mexican-American mix that's become popular to our California culture.

  10. Roaring 20's
Whether you concentrate on a twenties jazz theme or more towards flappers and gangsters, you'll have a blast with this theme. It's fun to get dressed up! The music can be traditional or mix it up with some modern songs that can fit right in. And you can always add some swing (even if it's not quite with the theme.)

  11. Country Wedding Hoedown
A beautiful country wedding. So no cheatin, lyin' or stealin'. Or perhaps you're looking for a Country BBQ? Would you prefer it Smooth and Tangy or more Spicy and Hot?

  12. More Coming....

No matter what the theme, we have a selection of songs that will match - that's why DJ Pol is known as the Connection Master!
